Ransomware actors are shifting focus from encryption to pure data theft.

<p>According to recent reports, <!--StartFragment --><span class="cf0">the United States has become the ransomware capital of the world, accounting for half of all known attacks globally</span><span class="cf1">&mdash;a staggering 146% year-over-year increase. This sharp rise underscores the growing threat landscape, particularly for U.S. manufacturers, who topped the list of targeted industries with over 1,000 recorded ransomware incidents.</span></p> <p><span class="cf1">Other sectors like technology, healthcare, and energy also saw steep increases, with the oil and gas industry alone experiencing a 900% spike. The report also notes a tactical shift among ransomware gangs&mdash;from simply encrypting files to stealing massive volumes of sensitive data.
